Welcome

Welcome

I am really pleased that you are considering applying for a job in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Thinking about applying for a new job can be daunting and I hope that we will be able to assist and support you in doing this by providing you with helpful information and communicating with you through the application process.

We want to do well for our children and families. I know that social work is a very challenging job and I want to do all that I can to help practitioners in their day to day work. We have a good offer for practitioners and managers, and we will be developing this in the coming months. I am committed to developing a culture and environment where social care practitioners are valued and recognised. I want staff in the department to feel safe, supported and to be well managed and we have lots of work taking place to achieve this. I am working with staff to build a positive culture that will help to build a strong community of practice.

Things are changing in Wandsworth and rapidly. We have a newly appointed Director of Children’s Services and Assistant Director for Children and Families with ambitious plans to lead Wandsworth to good and outstanding. We are working with new projects and ways of working which are very exciting. This includes introducing systemic practice; being part of the innovation programme and introducing the Family Safeguarding Model; and planning to work with Coram on a New Beginnings programme for our care leavers.

Our participation for children in care is a priority for us and our work in this area is something we are truly proud of. We have active participation for younger children, teens and care leavers where their voices are sincerely heard. In 2018 they were shortlisted for the Children and Young People Now Public Sector Children’s Team award and our Future First Leaving Care Service was shortlisted for best Care Leavers Service.

We have excellent training and development pathways and will ensure you have your own unique professional development plan and opportunities. We have excellent services that will give you what you need to help and support children. This includes a dedicated local contact service and in borough residential and community parenting assessment service.

We are now recruiting to some key vacancies across our service and need outstanding practitioners and managers with proven leadership skills to take this journey with us. We understand that our staff and their skills are what makes a difference in the lives of Wandsworth children and their families and if you share this vision we very much welcome your application to join our team.

If you would like to discuss our current opportunities informally and in confidence, then please do contact Katarzyna Prosniak at Hays Social Care for more information. Her number is 020 7259 8715 or email Katarzyna.Prosniak@hays.com

We look forward to meeting you.

Paul Angeli,
Assistant Director for Children and Families
