View the role

Welcome

Welcome

Merton College is one of the oldest and most beautiful colleges in Oxford, tucked away behind the High Street, with glorious views across Christ Church Meadows but within easy reach of other University buildings and the city centre. Over the centuries, many eminent scholars and cultural leaders have called Merton home. They include four Nobel prize winners, the physician who discovered the circulation of blood, the founder of the Bodleian Library and the mathematician who solved Fermat’s Last Theorem.

The College community currently comprises around 610 students (310 undergraduate and 300 graduate) across a range of Humanities, Social Science, and Science subjects, alongside some 65 Fellows, 40 other academic staff, and over 100 members of support staff.

The College is well-known for the outstanding achievements of its undergraduates, and the high performance of its graduates. Merton is a friendly and supportive community, which encourages diversity and excellence in all its activities.

Working with us

Working at Merton

We pride ourselves in the work that we do to support our students and Fellows in their academic careers. The Finance Bursary is one of a number of operational departments which support the academic functions of the College.

The College has a strong sense of community which we foster in many different ways. Food plays a central role within the College, and the provision of staff dining as well as a staff room allows staff to socialise outside of their departments. Our staff have a nominated charity and various events are held during the year to raise money. During normal times we have termly staff briefings to communicate the work of various departments as well as welcoming new staff and celebrating any staff anniversaries. Our College newsletter “Merton Magpie” keeps staff and students updated on the key events of the term. Staff use the wide array of excellent facilities provided by the College including the gym, the sports ground and pavilion as well as the library, the chapel and other resources.

Together with our historic architecture, beautiful gardens, delicious food, fine accommodation, excellent sporting and music facilities, outstanding choir and chapel, and generous support for students and researchers, Merton is an extraordinary and very special place in which to work.
