For over 100 years, they have been growing, shaping and caring for over 1,500 of the nation’s forests for the benefit and enjoyment of all, for this generation and the next.

What Forestry England do

With your help and support, they care for more land and trees than any other organisation in England. Shaping landscapes for people, wildlife and timber. They’ve built over 1,800 miles of walking, running and cycling trails, supplying England’s largest amount of sustainably-sourced timber, and conserving the homes of thousands of plants and animals.

Why they do it

Forests are vital for the future of the planet. They improve the health and wellbeing of everyone and with careful planning and expert management, their forests will continue to thrive. They help to offset carbon emissions, restore eco-systems and provide people of all ages and abilities with fresh air and spaces to breathe. They are always thinking beyond today, planning and planting forests that will help create a sustainable future.

Opening up the forests

They believe forests enhance people’s quality of life by providing places to enjoy watching wildlife, walking, riding bikes or horses and playing among the trees. By opening up access to the nation's forests through their Active Forests programme, they contribute to the wellbeing of the nation.

As well as health benefits, their woodlands make significant contributions to local economies around the country. The 226 million visits they get per year support over 80 private businesses across England. They deliver their Forest Centre services including bike hire, cafes and action-packed adventures through Go Ape.

Throughout summer, seven of their most popular sites are transformed into concert arenas for their Forest Live series. Since 2001, their forests have played host to an eclectic mix of artists, from Massive Attack to Jessie J and Blondie.

Their woodlands provide inspiration for contemporary artists who respond to these environments in different ways. Forest Art Works offers up new ways to interact with their forests through sculpture, music, photography and digital art.

They bring people and communities together, encouraging them to become involved with their local forests and woodlands.

They support a growing number of volunteers who work with them to help with maintenance, conservation, monitoring wildlife and more.
