Welcome

Why join the staff at Droylsden Academy? Why sign up to The Droylsden Way?

You will be joining a school that is enjoying a period of rapid transformation and you will be working in a school that is looking forward to a very bright future; this is an extremely exciting time to join our committed and passionate staff. Morale is high and there is a strong team spirit, driven by the commitment to improve the life chances of our students.

Staff and visitors to our school describe the warm and friendly welcome that they receive; they praise the polite and well-mannered students and they comment positively on the purposeful and learning focused culture that we are developing. Our teachers and students thrive on the consistency of the learning routines that form part of The Droylsden Way and they benefit from some of the best learning facilities in the North West.

Our staff have the privilege of working each day in a stunning, state of the art new building that is a landmark in the local community. First class learning areas allow our students to experience a varied and challenging school curriculum and our learners have the opportunity to participate in a fantastic extra curricular offer that develops their talents in music, sports and the arts.

As a staff, we have the highest expectations of ourselves and the highest aspirations for our learners and we are continually looking for like minded and dynamic professionals to make a positive difference to the young people that we serve.

I have been privileged to lead Droylsden Academy since May 2015. Prior to my appointment, I taught for 17 years in a number of schools across the North West, holding senior leadership responsibilities in two schools for over 7 years. I have a firm belief that it is a school’s responsibility to ensure that social disadvantage is not a barrier to progress and I have deeply held values that drive my ambition that all students, regardless of their starting point, will secure the necessary qualifications and develop the personal qualities that are required for success when they leave school. I believe the key to academic success is hard work, honesty and politeness. At Droylsden Academy, these three core values are central to all that we do and all that we believe. If you share our values, this is the school for you.

Our school is extremely fortunate to have an Executive Headteacher, Drew Duncan, who brings a wealth of experience from leading Mossley Hollins High School to two consecutive OfSTED outstanding judgements. Mossley Hollins has consistently secured some of the best results for similar schools nationally and it is a school that has received national recognition for excellence. In addition, as a National Leader of Education, Drew brings the challenge and support that will enable Droylsden Academy to become a nationally recognised school. With Drew working across Mossley Hollins High School and Droylsden Academy, both schools are benefiting from the links that have been established and the good practice that is shared.

Experience has taught me that the key to school improvement lies in the investment in and development of high quality and committed staff. Great schools equip their staff with the skills to develop professionally. At Droylsden Academy, we invest heavily in professional development to allow our staff to really reflect on their practice. If you decide to join our team, you will be provided with a comprehensive induction and development programme that will challenge you to become a real expert in your field. Many of our staff have remained with us from early in their careers, taking on extra responsibilities and developing as teachers and leaders.

So why join our team? Why choose Droylsden Academy?

As a staff, we work hard and challenge ourselves because we know that great teaching leads to great outcomes for our students. As a staff, we believe that hard work and excellence leads to professional pride.

If you thrive when working in a purposeful environment and you believe that every child really does deserve the best educational experience, then this is probably the school for you. If you are eager to develop professionally and you are passionate about making a real difference to young people’s lives you will thrive at Droylsden Academy.

If, like me, you have the desire to work in a school that is forward-thinking and continually seeking to get better then you are probably who we are looking for. But you should not just take my word for it. Please come and visit our school and see it for yourself. The students and staff will be excited to meet you.
