Welcome

A Welcome from the CEO / Chief Constable
Chief Simon Chesterman QPM

Thank you for considering applying for the roles within the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary is responsible for the armed police protection of licenced civil nuclear facilities in the UK and civil nuclear material in transit in the UK and internationally.

We protect ten nuclear sites across the country and employ over 1,500 police officers and members of staff at nuclear sites throughout the UK. Our headquarters are based in Culham, Oxfordshire. As a national infrastructure police force with counter-terrorism at the heart of everything we do, we carry out a nationally important and unique task, which becomes ever more challenging as global terrorism threats change and new ones emerge.

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary has seen unprecedented change and is still on a journey. Significant work has been completed to establish firm foundations, from which further growth and capabilities need to be driven forwards.

I am truly excited about the future for the constabulary, however, there is more to be done.

For 2018 to 2021, our priorities are:

  • Delivering the operation - in partnership with our stakeholders we will execute all planned operations, implement revise policing and security models and maintain high levels of operational deployability
  • Supporting the operation - we will continue to deliver nationally accredited firearms and command training and embrace new capability and technology: maximising the full potential of our new Tactical Training Centre will be key
  • Supporting our people – enhancing our organisational wellbeing, performance, development and engagement strategies
  • Delivering best value - whilst continuing to employ the most effective business management, we will continue to seek efficiencies across the organisation.

Our workforce has operated through a financially challenging period within a force that has continually changed and developed to meet new challenges. A significant part of these roles will be to ensure that that we can continue to support the wider Constabulary and to operate in a flexible and adaptive environment to meet the ever-changing landscape that we are increasingly operating within.

We have had great success by understanding and responding to the needs of our customers. I want us to continuing being the best at understanding and responding to our people’s needs.

So, I hope that you will consider working for an organisation with a strong tradition of success.
